Traineeships - Junior Professionals in Delegation Programme 2019

Programme of Junior Professionals in Delegation (JPD)


Following a Joint Decision of the Commission and the High Representative establishing a High Level Traineeship Programme in the Delegations of the European Union and the Rules Governing this Programme in Partnership with the Member States of the European Union, the European Union External Action Service (EEAS) is again seeking to deploy Junior Professionals in Delegation (JPD) as from September/ October 2019.

Candidates applying for this high-level traineeship programme should:

§  be a national from an EU Member State,

§  hold at least a university degree equivalent to a Master's degree in a domain relevant to the activities of the Delegations;

§  have excellent command of English and / or French; knowledge of other languages is an asset;

§  show a great interest and motivation to work in a Delegation;

§  professional experience, extra-curriculum activities such as volunteering or publications, is an important asset.


Applicants are to apply either for sections under the competence of the EEAS (political sections), or for sections under the competence of the Commission (mainly operational or trade sections). 

The European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission (EC) will finance a minimum of 54 JPD posts (two (2) per Member State) for the 2019-2021 round. In this regard, 27 JPD posts will be offered in the political, press and information sections (EEAS) and 27 JPD posts will be offered in the aid management, trade and economic sections (EC).

Applications may be submitted either by e-mail on or delivered by post or handed to the Ministry for European Affairs & Equality, (Attn: Ms Francesca Tabone), House of Catalunya, 32, Triq Marsamxett, Valletta VLT 1850, by Thursday, 31 January 2019. Late applications will not be considered. 

Applicants who submit the Application Form electronically are to submit the signed originals by Friday 8 February 2019. Applications which are not received by this deadline will be considered void.
