Public consultation on draft Legal Notice on the Keeping of Wild Animals in Zoos Regulations, 2020

1.        Background​

 

The Legal Notice amends and updates existing legislation. It intends to address unregulated areas in the protection of wild fauna and the conservation of biodiversity by providing for the adoption of licensing, registration and inspection of zoos on the territory of Malta in order to strengthen the role of zoos in the conservatio​n of biodiversity, protect the health and wellbeing of wild animals and to protect the public from these animals.


2.        Consultation Questions
 
The Animal Health and Welfare Department is kindly requesting the public to review the draft Legal Notice and provide its views/suggestions on the regulations, particularly on any aspects and issues that may contribute to improve the health and protection of wild fauna and the conservation of biodiversity. ​

The General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act Chapter 586 regulate the processing of personal data whether held electronically or in manual form. The Ministry for European Affairs and Equality collects only information which is necessary for it to perform its intended functions and is set to fully comply with the Data Protection Principles as set out in the Data Protection Legislation.  Verification of the ID number provided will take place as deemed necessary. All personal data provided will be processed according to the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act (Cap 586).
