1.        Background​

 

This proposal seeks to construct:

  • The Santa Marija breakwater that will extend out from the coast from an existing concreted area and the footprint on the seabed will cover c. 10, 400 m2,
  • The Menqa breakwater which will attach to the existing jetty located on the eastern side of the bay, and
  • Two rubble mound groynes that will be located on either side of the Marsalforn valley mouth. Once both groynes are in place, the beach replenishment will take place on the lateral site of each groyne.

The proposal requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as per Schedule I, Category II, Sections 6.2.2.1, 6.2.2.2, 62.2.3 and 6.2.2.4 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (S.L. 549.46).  


2.        Consultation Questions
 
The Environment and Resources Authority is formulating terms of reference for the preparation of an EIA Report on the development mentioned above. The general public is invited to submit written comments on matters it wishes to see included in the terms of reference.
