Notice of submission of Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the proposal of the Italy-Malta gas pipeline

Transboundary consultation under the Environmental Impact Assessment (S.L. 549.46) and the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and its First and Second Amendments.

1.        Background​

In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (S.L. 549.46) and 1991 United Nations Convention on environmental impact in a transboundary context (the Espoo Convention) notice is hereby being given that an EIA Report has been submitted from the Ministry of Ecological Transition Directorate for Environmental Assessment and Authorizations   in Italy to the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning in Malta in connection with the above-mentioned application.

2.        Consultation Questions

The Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning is in receipt of the EIA Report on the development mentioned above. The general public is invited to submit written comments in relation tothe potential transboundary environmetla effects of the project. The Italian EIA Report and non-technical summary are available for viewing on the website of the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) though the following link: All documentation related to the Italian EIA report is available through the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transitions Directorate for Environmental Assessment and Authorizations (

In the interests of transparency, it should be noted that, all feedback received during this consultation or a summary of the submission will be forwarded to the Ministry of Ecological Transition Directorate for Environmental Assessment and Authorizations in Italy. Submissions received or a summary of the same will be published on the ERA website.
