Partial Review of the Central Malta Local Plan in Gharghur – Phase 2

From: Ministry for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning
(Planning Authority)
Published: 12 May 2021
Running till: 4 June 2021
Last Updated: 8 June 2021

1.        Background

The Planning Authority is carrying out a partial review of the Central Malta Local Plan (2006) for an area in Gharghur. The objective of this partial review is to amend the official building alignment, as established by the 2006 Local Plan for Gharghur, of the east side of Triq Fidiel Zarb in Gharghur between Triq Kromb il-Bahar and Triq il-Gnien, so that it follows the alignment of the existing buildings and safeguards the character of the Urban Conservation Area.

Whilst Triq Fidiel Zarb has long been designated for road widening, the Planning Authority is seeking to avoid demolishing of buildings within the UCA in consonance with priorities set by the Strategic Plan for Environment and Development, 2015.
