1.        Background
 
Through this public consultation, the Ministry for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties is requesting the opinions of citizens with regard to the proposal of granting sick leave for parents taking care of sick children.  Meetings and discussions are ongoing with unions and employers as well as the Commissioner for Children.  The aim of this consultation is to collect all reactions from social partners and the general public in order to evaluate all points of view related to this proposal.
 
This proposal is in line with other measures which were introduced by the government to assist workers in achieving the best balance in their work-life responsibilities.
 
2.        Consultation Questions
 
      i.        What is your opinion on the proposal of granting sick leave for parents taking care of sick children?
     ii.        Do you think that such a proposal would help in achieving work-life balance? Why?
   iii.        Do you think that this measure could lead to the abuse of sick leave?  If yes, in what way?
   iv.        What would be the best way to implement this measure?
     v.        Which factors should be considered prior to implementing this proposal?

All personal data provided will be processed according to the Data Protection Act (Cap 440).
