1.        Background

Th
e proposal involves the rehabilitation of the Luqa dump, by means of landfill mining, whereby all previously dumped material will be excavated, sorted, characterised, and treated for recovery purposes. The processing of the material is proposed to be carried out within the site boundaries, and the site will be reverted to the topographic configuration that existed prior to the opening of the dump, in order to prepare the site for future extension of the industrial estate and construction of new sports facilities.
